Santa Barbara Coast - 2013
Main content start
The 2013 field trip of the Stanford University Basin and Petroleum System Modeling Industrial Affiliates Program studied the coastal petroleum system of Santa Barbara. We started in the seal rock and reservoir rock at Ventura Anticline, traveled to the petroleum charge at the oil seeps on Carpinteria State Beach, and ended in the source rock of the Monterey Formation at Gaviota State Park. Highlights included basin structuring, outcrop analogs for sandstone reservoir rocks at depth, and outcrop analogs of fractured shale and conventional sandstone reservoir rocks.
