Gas Hydrates Studies
Main content start
Terrebonne Basin, Gulf of Mexico and in the East Coast Basin, New Zealand. We examined gas recycling in and out of the gas hydrate stability zone; the role played by faults as gas migration conduits; and the thermal effect of salt diapirs on overlying sediments. Basin and petroleum system modeling can help provide both qualitative and quantitative evidence of methane migration from its source to reservoirs or atmosphere, discover unidentified hydrate deposits over a large geographic scale and in an inexpensive manner, and predict drilling hazards by real-time updates on in situ pressure conditions while drilling.
