Quantitative Methods in Basin and Petroleum System Modeling (GES292) 2011

One highlight of the fall quarter of 2011 was the offering of a new course, Quantitative Methods in Basin and Petroleum System Modeling, by Dr. Allegra Hosford Scheirer and Dr. Tapan Mukerji. Course lectures were designed to derive the basic equations of fundamental, coupled geologic processes such as fluid flow and heat flow, deposition, compaction, mass conservation, and chemical reactions. Other lectures provided detailed overviews of the petroleum system concept and “recipes” for how to start a modeling project. Lab exercises provided hands-on training with the goal of removing the “black box” nature of petroleum system modeling software.
